Seeing Jesus →Overflow Part 2: Incarnation
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs…” Col 3:16 Notice, in the following verses, what overflows from seeing the baby Jesus:
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:10-11)
You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger….
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.” (Luke 2:12-14)
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God. (Luke 2:20)
The birth of Jesus our Saviour resulted in a filling and outpouring of joy, worship, generosity, praise, song, glory.
To live a life of being inspired -a life overflowing in worship and song, let’s think on the incarnation. Jesus, the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. Fully God, fully divine. Let’s think of Him, living in perpetual joy and love for eternity. The King of Kings then, leaving his throne of glory, to become a baby.
Mary “gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” (Luke 2:7) Here is the God of glory, lying in a cow’s eating trough, dependent on his mother‘s milk for life.
Instead of commanding a legion of army angels, he came as a baby. He grew up dependent on others to teach him – he learned to crawl, then to take his first step, then to walk on wobbly legs. Oh what condescension! Oh what humility our God shows. Why? See how much He loves us!
When the King is born, the earth breaks out in song. The angels can’t help but break out in praise to God. Imagine being the shepherds -seeing the sky came alive with light and song. The shepherds “hurried off” to see that “which the Lord has told us about.” Wisemen travelled thousands of kilometres, on an arduous journey through multiplied countries, bearing treasure to lay at the feet of the infant King.
This is the response to the incarnation. What does this do to you? Does it not bring you to your knees, make tears pool in your eyes, and make your heart swell with delight in praise and song – to ascribe awe and joy at the depths, wisdom, magnificence of the incarnation?
Friend, are you lacking in zeal -in inspiration? We have a well that never runs dry. Go there…
“From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.” Psalm 8:2
